When I saw Olesya's headdress I was so amazed I contacted her right away and asked her if she would mind working together. To my surprise, she said "yes", even though she had never done anything like this before. And of course, I was (and am) extremely honoured and happy to have been able to photograph her amazing work, which came on a long journey all the way from Russia.
Once, everything was planned with the designer, the right model came to my mind straight away, my friend Kristina, who also happens to be Russian.
Kristina was super excited and told me about this Russian fairytale called "Swan Princess" - not the Disney version - and showed be this beautiful painting by Mikhail Vrubel (below), which inspired the whole set.
Our friend Matthew Thompson - who is also an amazing Photographer - agreed to take us to the location and to assist us.
Once I found the perfect dress for this photo shoot, I contacted Sarah to do the make-up and the whole team was set.
On the day of the shoot we drove all the way from London to Botany Bay, Kent - thank you Matt - and we spent a lovely afternoon laughing and taking photographs, Matt even did some amazing work with his drone and of course we all froze to death (especially Kristina) as it was a really cold British winter day.
Despite the cold, this portrait session became one of my very favourites. I hope you like them too.
